Interactions:

Amphotericin B

  • Adverse Effect: Enhanced hypokalemia  
  • Clinical Management: Check serum potassium levels at frequent intervals; use potassium supplements if necessary

    Aspirin

  • Adverse Effect: Increased ulcerogenic effect & decreased pharmacologic effect of Aspirin   Rarely salicylate toxicity may occur in patients who discontinue steroids after concurrent high-dose Aspirin therapy. #
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the therapeutic effects and adjust the dose of salicylate if required.

    Frusemide

  • Adverse Effect: Enhanced hypokalemia  
  • Clinical Management: Check serum potassium levels at frequent intervals; use potassium supplements if necessary.

    Norethindrone

  • Adverse Effect: Increased tendency towards developing edema  
  • Clinical Management: Concomitant administration should be done with caution especially in patients with hepatic or cardiac disease.

    Oxymetholone

  • Adverse Effect: Increased tendency towards developing edema  
  • Clinical Management: Concomitant administration should be done with caution especially in patients with hepatic or cardiac disease.  

    Phenobarbitone

  • Adverse Effect: Increased metabolic clearance of Fludrocortisone acetate due to the induction of hepatic enzymes by Barbiturates
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the possible diminished effect of Fludrocortisone acetate and increase the dosage accordingly    

    Phenytoin

  • Adverse Effect: Increased metabolic clearance of Fludrocortisone acetate due to the induction of hepatic enzymes
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the possible diminished effect of Fludrocortisone acetate and increase the dosage accordingly.  

    Rifampicin

  • Adverse Effect: Increased metabolic clearance of Fludrocortisone acetate due to the induction of hepatic enzymes
  • Clinical Management: Monitor for the possible diminished effect of Fludrocortisone acetate and increase the dosage accordingly.
